Taking A Break

Obviously, I haven't posted for a while, and the reason is that I injured my ankle and am not running until it heals because running irritates it. I enjoyed posting and will hopefully come back to it as soon as my ankle feels better!

Week 1 Day 1

Today is my first day of doing Couch to 5k, and it's supposed to start easy (yeah right). I believe all of Week 1 is the same work out to get you used to running: warm up by walking for five minutes, jog for one minute, walk for one and a half minutes, repeat the jogging and walking for a total of eight times, and cool down by walking for five minutes.

Time of day: 10:40 AM
Weather: 76 degrees Fahrenheit
Trainer used: Billie

Before thoughts:
Maybe this won't be as bad as I thought... I mean, it's not 90 degrees and I'm going earlier in the day. Oh, who am I kidding? It's probably going to be awful. At least I'll have music to listen to.

Warm up:
This is easy. Duh. It's the warm up. I'm not tired yet.
Jog 1:
*lip-synching to music while gesturing outwards*
Walk 1:
How is it possible to have a stitch in my side already?
Jog 2:
There is a rock. In my shoe. And I'm thirsty. Why did I think this would be a good idea? Oh right, I never wanted to do this.
Walk 2:
What would happen if I just didn't start jogging again and walked the whole time?
Jog 3:
I have another stitch in my side. This is going to be a long nine weeks.
Walk 3:
I have even more respect for marathon runners. And an even stronger dislike of running.
Jog 4:
*looking at the creek next to the trail I'm running on* Water. I need water. Why didn't I bring any?
Walk 4:
HALFWAY DONE!!! Wait, I'm only halfway done?
Jog 5:
There's a second rock in my shoe. How is this happening? I'm wearing tennis shoes!
Walk 5:
You know, for some reason I thought there were only four times you jogged and walked. I was very, very wrong.
Jog 6:
Slowly. Dying. Sweat. Thirst. My feet hurt.
Walk 6:
I can understand why no one wants to run with me anymore. I do complain too much. Whatever.
Jog 7:
Why am I so sweaty? I've been running in the shade the whole time!
Walk 7:
I've gone two miles so far? *feels accomplished* *remembers most of it was walking*
Jog 8:
This is the last jog, right? Probably not. I wouldn't put it past them to have added another jog in there just to torture me even farther.
Walk 8:
It says the cool down is next, but I don't know. Also, I am dying.
Cool Down:
Well, that's done... finally. When I wipe the sweat away my hand is literally dripping. Wait... I have to do this again in two days!?
After thoughts:
At least this wasn't like the other time I tried to do Couch to 5k when I literally almost passed out. But this was an experience I don't feel like repeating, however, because I'm the kind of person that finishes what they start, I'll keep putting myself through this agony.

Was your running experience similar to mine? Do you have any tips to not die? Feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts!

Introduction

Hey! Welcome to "Thoughts From the World's Most Pessimistic Runner!" You'll see a lot of things on the Internet about running and how great it is. I personally don't like running long distances, but I'm going to try something new and do the Couch to 5k program, which is an app you can download on Apple and Android phones. It costs $2.99, but apparently works really well. I decided to document my journey in the form of a blog. However, since I don't like running, my posts will be my thoughts (aka complaints, but not whining) and experiences (aka everything that went wrong) of each day that I go running, with a photo or two included. Be warned, if you've come to this blog looking for encouragement to run, you won't find it here (and I'm not sure why you'd see the blog address and think that you would find running positivity). Although who knows? By the time I get to the 5k I may like running (yeah right). So if you're like me and you're just running to be able to run a 5k and don't like running at all, this is the site for you.

How the Couch to 5k app works:
The running sessions start easy and get harder and harder. There are nine weeks, and each week has three days (meaning you run three times a week. That's how often I'm going to be posting). There are several different "coaches" that provide encouragement and tell you when to jog and when to walk. Each session is about half an hour long, and the app logs your total distance and time throughout all of your workouts.
